The Attorney General has concluded a total of 16,647 criminal cases in the year 2019 and forwarded 9,851 indictments to the High Court, according to the AGCoordinating Officer Nishara Jayaratne. The State Counsel further stated that within this year, the Attorney General has discharged 2,957 suspects and forwarded advice to the Police in 3,568 criminal cases.

The university intake of students from the 2019 G.C.E Advanced Level examination will be increased by 25 percent for which discussions with universities and other stakeholders are on, Information and Communications Technology, Higher Education, and Technology Innovation Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardena said.Speaking to media at the Information Department yesterday, he said &We have 281,786 who have sat for the Advanced Level examinations out of which 181,126 have qualified to enter universities, however only 30,000 students are enrolled which leaves nearly 150,000 students stranded with no future prospect for employment or higher education,& he said.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said inefficiency in the public service will end during his tenure of office.He said that all government institutions which are close to the day to day life of the public should run in an efficient and transparent manner and they should be free from corruption. &Every successive government in the country earned public wrath due to inefficiency of the public service,& he said.The President was of the view that unnecessary rules and regulations should be amended to ensure efficiency in the government service.

The Government will shortly provide a relief package containing essential food items to Samurdhi beneficiaries and low income families, it was announced yesterday.The monthly relief package worth Rs 3,600 will include rice, wheat flour, sugar, dried fish and sprats among other food items. The monthly food package programme is to meet needs of low income groups affected by food price rises.
