Showers in several provinces

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in Northern, North-western provinces and in Trincomalee district. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 27th of August to 07th of September in this year. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (06) are Ambalangoda, Talgaswela, Wirapana, Morawaka, Wirawila and Yodakandiya about 12.10 noon.

Global tea marketing campaign to kick off in this month

The much awaited global tea marketing campaign would finally get off the ground on September 25, with the first promotional activity in Russia.This would be followed up by the second promotion in Ukraine in October, Director Promotions, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Pavithri Peiris said.She add that according to plan Japan has been earmarked as the third country for global promotion. This would be in March next year, followed by China, she said on the sidelines of the NCE awards launch event at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.

‘Colombo Declaration& agrees Age of Marriage be 18 years in South Asia

Parliamentarians who took part in the two day summit on Child Rights in South Asia have principally agreed that the age of marriage for an individual should be a minimum of 18 years in the South Asian region and that the general law of the country should be supreme.The Colombo Declaration issued after the two days summit also said that South Asia parliamentarians pledge that their commitment to ensure that every child in respective countries has every right fulfilled.

CID find Rs.6 Bn assets held by Easter bomber group

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigations have uncovered a total of Rs.6 billion worth property and assets of terrorist suspects linked to the Easter Sunday attacks, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told news media yesterday.

Addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarters, Colombo, yesterday, he said land, buildings, vehicles and other movable property was among the assets found and that the Police was working for the seizure of all these assets.

Gunasekara disclosed that a total of Rs.134 million was found in 100 bank accounts belonging to 41 individuals and companies suspected to have links to the Easter Sunday bombers. A further Rs.20 million in cash found in the possession of the suspects when they were rounded up.

No liquor licenses issued to current parliamentarians & Finance Ministry

The Ministry of Finance, issuing a press release, stated that no liquor licenses have been issued to the current parliamentarians.Although liquor licenses were issued to the owners of hotels approved by the Tourist Board after 2015 with the intention of developing tourism industry, none of the current parliamentarians has been issued with liquor licenses, stated the Ministry.

‘Jeevanabhimani& Movement to uplift the dignity of youth
