Senior Advisor meets top banking officials on SME capital repayments

Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs Ajith Nivard Cabraal met with Central Bank top officials, Bank CEOs and the Auditors of Banks on Tuesday at the Prime MinisterOffice at Temple Trees.The structure and implementation of the Moratorium of capital repayments by SME borrowers during the year 2020 while interest at the contracted rates is being serviced, as well as the restructuring of non-performing loans was discussed and resolved at the meeting.

Gazette on subjects and functions of state ministers

Following instructions from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Jayasundera has informed all ministry secretaries to take necessary steps to issue the gazette notification on subjects and functions of the state ministers.Instructions have been given that this should be done in accordance with the Cabinet Memorandum presented by the President on subjects and functions of the state ministers who are not part of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Sri Lanka marks 15th tsunami anniversary today

Today marks the 15th anniversary since Sri Lanka faced the devastating Tsunami disaster that hit the island in 2004 killing over 35,000 people. On December 26, 2004, an undersea earthquake with a magnitude of 9.1 struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra generating tsunami waves which caused massive destruction in several countries including Sri Lanka. Remembering the victims of the Tsunami disaster, National Safety Day will be celebrated at the Peraliya Tsunami Memorial in Thelwatte, Galle at 8.45 a.m today.Religious dignitaries of all faiths, political leaders, public officials, security forces and police and the family members of tsunami victims, will participate at the commemorative event.

Navy provides assistance to flood victims

Navy relief teams are supporting to restore normalcy in public life in the Northwestern Province, that was slashed by the adverse weather in Puttalam district. Accordingly, the Navy, over the past couple of days, has been cleaning the drinking water wells contaminated by flood water and distributing safe drinking water by Navymobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants.
