NEW DELHI: In line with midcaps, smallcaps too were outperforming Sensex during Tuesday's trade.Around 11:55 am, the BSE Smallcap index was 0.52 per cent up at 17,034, while the Sensex was 0.04 per cent down at 34,601.
The NSE Nifty50 was 0.03 per cent up at 10,520.Shares of Usha Martin (up 13.90 per cent), Strides Shasun (up 12.39 per cent) and Jaiprakash Associates (up 10.92 per cent) surged over 10 per cent in the smallcap index.Stocks such as 8K Miles Software Services (up 8.47 per cent), Arrow Greentech (up 7.69 per cent), NCC (up 7.48 per cent), Mercator (up 7.42 per cent) and India Glycols (up 7.16 per cent) were also among the top gainers.On the other hand, Ucal Fuel Systems (down 7.74 per cent), Hatsun Agro Products (down 7.23 per cent), Kesar Terminals Infrastructure (down 7.14 per cent), Mahanagar Gas (down 7.07 per cent), CL Educate (down 6.44 per cent), Panama Petrochem (down 5.53 per cent), Signet Industries (down 5.36 per cent), Uttam Galva Steels (down 5 per cent) were among top losers in the index around the same time.
Equity benchmarks erased the gains on poor show by heavyweights HDFC, Tata Consultancy Services, ITC, State Bank of India and Hindustan Unilever.
In the Sensex index, 18 stocks were trading up and 13 were down.
Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel and Dr Reddy's Labs were among top Sensex gainers.
