Shares of Vodafone Idea (down 5.02 per cent) , Reliance Communications (down 4.18 per cent) , Himachal Futuristic Communications (down 1.56 per cent) and Sterlite Technologies (down 1.09 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 0.98 per cent) , Tata Communications (down 0.90 per cent) and Vindhya Telelinks (down 0.83 per cent) too were trading with losses.
The SP BSE Telecom index was trading 0.09 per cent up at 1039.82 around 12:08 pm.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 31.80 points at 11,612.15 while the BSE Sensex was down 115.42 points at 38,761.70.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 22 were trading in the green, while 27 were in the red.
Shares of Wipro, Reliance Communications, Vodafone Idea, Dish TV India, Indian Energy Exchange, Suzlon Energy, Laksmi Vilas Bank, Adani Power, Reliance Power, YES Bank, PNB, JP Associates, IDBI Bank, SAIL, Tata Motors, Bombay Dyeing and NALCO were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
