BENGALURU: Wipros first-quarter revenue rose just 0.1 per cent sequentially in constant currency terms and the Bengaluru-headquartered company forecast marginally better second-quarter growth as it continues to deal with issues with its clients. The IT company has struggled to keep up with its rivals and return to industry growth rates as bankruptcies at two large clients and a slowdown in its US healthcare business continues to clamp down on revenue. For the quarter ended June 30, Wipros IT services revenue grew 0.3 per cent in constant currency to $2.02 billion.
In reported currency terms, Wipros revenue dropped 1.7 per cent sequentially.
Constant currency strips out the volatility due to currency fluctuation. For the second quarter, Wipro forecast revenue of between $2.0 billion and $2.04 billion.
Excluding the impact of the sale of its hosted data centre business, this translates to growth of 0.3-2.3 per cent sequentially in constant currency terms. The sale of the data centre business helped boost Wipros margin to 17.2 per cent, up from 14.4 per cent at the end of March. Our investments in Digital continue to help us build differentiation in key industry segments, which is resulting in a consistent improvement in our client metrics.
We have had a good quarter of order bookings and I am confident we are moving in the right direction, Wipro CEO Abidali Z Neemuchwala said in a statement.
