NEW DELHI: A majority of FMCG stocks were trading in the positive territory during Monday's session, keeping the sectoral index up.
Shares of Godrej Consumer Products (up 2.62 per cent), Britannia Industries (up 1.89 per cent), Godrej Industries (up 1.57 per cent) and Tata Global Beverages (up 0.86 per cent) were trading with gains.GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (up 0.67 per cent), Hindustan Unilever (up 0.47 per cent), Procter Gamble Hygiene Healthcare (up 0.36 per cent), Jubilant Foodworks (up 0.33 per cent) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) (up 0.20 per cent) too were in the green.
However, Emami (down 2.05 per cent), Marico (down 1.68 per cent), Dabur India (down 0.82 per cent), United Spirits (down 0.81 per cent), United Breweries (down 0.42 per cent) and ITC (down 0.21 per cent) were incurring losses around that time, capping the gains for the FMCG index.
The Nifty FMCG index was trading with a small gain of 0.15 per cent at 32,387.55.
Equity market surged to fresh record highs on healthy buying in capital goods, financial, auto and metal stocks.
Positive global cues and a fresh rise in the Indian rupee against the US dollar too influenced the sentiment.Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 86.25 points at 11,557, while the BSE Sensex was up 339.18 points at 38,287.06.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 33 were trading in the green, while 17 were in the red.
Larsen Toubro, Tata Motors, ONGC, Tata Steel and Reliance Industries were among the top gainers, while Infosys, GAIL (India), HCL Technologies, Lupin and Titan Company were among the top losers in the Nifty pack of stocks.
