NEW DELHI: The BSE Telecom index was trading 0.76 per cent up at 1,168.61 around 02:50 pm on Monday, with Idea Cellular (up 4.81 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (HFCL) (up 2.53 per cent) and OnMobile Global (up 2.12 per cent) as the top gainers.
Shares of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) (up 1.32 per cent), Bharti Infratel (up 0.81 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (up 0.73 per cent), ITI (up 0.29 per cent), Reliance Communications (up 0.21 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 0.19 per cent) were also up.
However, GTL Infrastructure (down 1.45 per cent), GTPL Hathway (down 1.39 per cent), Sterlite Technologies (down 0.88 per cent), Aksh Optifibre (down 0.81 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 0.60 per cent) and Tata Communications (down 0.57 per cent) were incurring losses.
Equity market was trading higher on gains in most sectors, barring IT and consumer durables.Positive global cues and a fresh rise in the Indian rupee against the US dollar too influenced the sentiment.Benchmark BSE Sensex was up 368.65 points at 38,316.53, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 86.15 points at 11,556.90.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 34 were trading in the green, while 16 were in the red.In the Sensex pack, 24 stocks were advancing and 7 were declining.
