NEW DELHI: Most telecom stocks were trading lower in afternoon trade on Tuesday, keeping the sectoral index under pressure.
The BSE Telecom index was trading 0.26 per cent down at 1,166.06 around 02:25 pm.
GTL Infrastructure (down 3.82 per cent), GTL (down 3.44 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 2.20 per cent), Reliance Communications (down 1.28 per cent), GTPL Hathway (down 1.07 per cent) and Idea Cellular (down 1.07 per cent) were the top losers in the telecom index.
Shares of OnMobile Global (down 1.06 per cent), Tata Communications (down 1.02 per cent), Bharti Infratel (down 0.75 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (down 0.46 per cent) too were in the red.
However, Vindhya Telelinks (up 8.86 per cent), Sterlite Technologies (up 3.49 per cent), ITI (up 2.55 per cent), Aksh Optifibre (up 1.65 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 1.20 per cent) and Tejas Networks (up 0.51 per cent) were trading with gains.
Benchmark BSE Sensex was up 151 points at 38,845.11, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 35.50 points at 11,727.45.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 were trading in the green, while 29 were in the red.
15 stocks were advancing in the Sensex index, compared with 16 decliners.
Reliance Industries was leading among Sensex gainers.
YES Bank, plunging over 5 per cent, was the top loser in the Sensex index.
