INDORE: A man fatally hacked his wife and their two children with a sword when she prevented him from killing the family's pet dog that barked at him when he arrived home drunk late Saturday in Badnagar town of Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district, police said Sunday.
Dilip Panwar (45) killed himself by slitting his throat after the triple murder.The couple's two other children, aged 13 and 11, escaped with slash wounds as they ran to the terrace and jumped across to a neighbour's house following their father's attack.
They are being treated at a community health centre.This marks the second familicide within a week in the state, where a dispute related to a pet dog has led to the tragic killing of multiple family members.
Just three days ago, two family members were fatally shot and six others sustained injuries in Indore following an altercation over one of them hitting the pet dog belonging to the assailant.According to Deen Bandu Singh Tomar, the officer in charge of Badnagar police station, the latest crime happened in Baloda Arzi village.
Panwar arrived home in a state of intoxication and the pet dog persistently barked at him, the officer said.
Provoked by this, he entered the house in a state of fury and grabbed a sword to kill the dog.
Wife Gangabai (40) tried to stop him, but he attacked her with the sword.
Their daughter Neha (17) and son Yogendra (14) tried to intervene and their father turned on them too.
All three bled to death.
Panwar attacked his younger sons Bulbul and Devendra as well, but they managed to flee.
Subsequently, the man slit his throat.
