Ukrainian forces inhabited parts of the border region following a surprise incursion in August. After Russias Defense Ministry announced the capture of Marine, Sumy area Governor Oleh Hryhorov stated almost 56,000 of the more than 86,000 locals based on a necessary evacuation order had relocated. The most current evacuations followed a Russian drone strike on a minibus in the Sumy area town of Bilopilia on Saturday that eliminated 9 people and hurt seven others. On Friday, direct peace talks in between Russia and Ukraine resumed in Turkey.
A source familiar with the settlements told AFP that Moscow had threatened to seize Ukraines Sumy and Kharkiv regions regardless of formerly making no formal territorial claims to either.
