The vice president of Russias state-owned oil pipeline monopoly Transneft has died after supposedly falling from a window at his home in the upscale Moscow suburb of Rublyovka, state media reported Friday.Transneft verified Andrei Badalovs death at age 62 however did not comment on the circumstances.
The company stated his work came during a tough and stressful period marked by Western sanctions.Badalovs body was found underneath the windows of a home on the Rublyovo-Uspenskoye highway, the state-run TASS news firm reported, mentioning an unnamed law enforcement source.The preliminary cause of death is suicide, the source said, including that an initial investigation was underway.Badalov had overseen Transnefts digital change given that his appointment as vice president in July 2021.
His death is the most recent in a string of high-profile and inexplicable deaths among senior executives in Russias energy sector considering that the nation introduced its full-scale intrusion of Ukraine in February 2022.
A minimum of 4 deaths in 2022 were linked to the state energy giant Gazprom, while others included executives from Novatek and Lukoil.
