Russias Federal Security Service (FSB) said Wednesday that its representatives shot and killed a man who apparently planned to blow up a railroad bridge in the southern Saratov region.The man, who was not identified, apparently opened fire on FSB officers as he attempted to retrieve an 11-kilogram (24-pound) explosive gadget.
Agents returned fire and fatally shot him, the FSB said.According to the law enforcement agency, the guy was a Russian resident who had preserved contacts with Ukraine and allegedly planned to sign up with the Ukrainian armed force after sabotaging the railway bridge.The Moscow Times might not independently validate the FSBs claims.A video released by state media revealed a male showing up in a town by vehicle, followed by thermal images of what appeared to be a shootout and explosion in a woody area.
The video likewise revealed a railroad bridge and a container reportedly containing combustible liquid, referred to as part of the prepared attack.Law enforcement authorities launched an investigation into the illegal possession and trafficking of explosives.
The FSB said it may classify the occurrence as a tried terrorist attack.
