The federal government has directed district secretaries to suspend the acceptance of deposits for the city government election in an effort to postpone the surveys, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa exposed today, citing a letter supposedly signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs - & Local Government.According to the said letter, ministerial secretary Neil Bandara Hapuhinna has advised all district secretaries not to accept election deposits from the participants up until further notification, based on a decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers.In a video statement, Premadasa accused certain consultants and officials of the presidential secretariat of being engaged in a national coup to postpone the local government election.The opposition leader, knocking the efforts to defer the election, called on the federal government not to play with the peoples right to vote.He swore to require to the streets if individualss right to vote is breached by the government.
