
Your Home Committee of Parliament has actually decided to modify the meal charges imposed on parliamentary staff, following requests made by staff members.The decision was made when the committee fulfilled in Parliament on Saturday (21 ), chaired by Dr.
Jagath Wickramaratne.As per the committees previously decision on May 23, charges for meals for parliamentary staff were set at Rs.
4,000 each month for executive-grade officers and Rs.
2,500 monthly for non-executive staff members, effective from June 01.
After considering the demands from the staff at length, the committee decided to revise the rates.Accordingly, from July 1 onwards, executive-grade officers will be charged Rs.
3,000 monthly, and non-executive staff members will be charged Rs.
2,000 per month.Meanwhile, the current meal rates for motorists of MPs, gatekeeper, and journalists using the Parliament snack bar will remain unchanged, as previously selected May 23.
In addition, discussions were held regarding the allotment of a portion of the MPs vacation home in Nuwara Eliya for parliamentary staff.Until now, just Members of Parliament had access to book the holiday cottage.
Following the Speakers instructions, one space in the center will now be made available for usage by parliamentary staff.The committee also discussed renovations to the MP real estate complex in Madiwela and stressed the need to prepare a daytime resting location for the drivers of MPs who get here on parliamentary sitting days.
