The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan revealed Monday Japan had contributed $7 million to support emergency food assistance, prevent poor nutrition and reinforce school feeding programmes.This financing will make it possible for WFP to offer emergency situation food help to nearly 30,000 households & over 200,000 individuals & for 3 months.
Furthermore, more than 60,000 pregnant and breastfeeding moms and kids will get specific nutritious food.
The contribution will also support day-to-day school snacks for almost 30,000 school children, enhancing their ability to find out and focus in the classroom, WFP stated in a declaration.
& Thanks to humanitarian support and much better harvests, we &'ve seen considerable improvements in overall food security, & stated Takayoshi Kuromiya, Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan.
& However, 15 million Afghans still do not know where their next meal will come from.
These numbers represent real households, kids and neighborhoods in immediate requirement, and the Government of Japan stays dedicated to supporting Afghan households through this crisis.
& The funding came at a vital time, when cravings and challenge for communities deepened ahead of the long Afghan winter season.
With restricted work opportunities and scarce food, households were facing the impossible choice of either heating their homes or feeding their children.
& As economic opportunities stay out of reach for numerous, specifically for ladies, families throughout Afghanistan are likewise having to endure a harsh winter, & stated Mutinta Chimuka, acting Country Director for WFP in Afghanistan.
& WFP is committed to supporting the most vulnerable, especially women-headed households.
Thanks to the kindness of partners like Japan, we &'ve had the ability to reach more than 12 million people last year, offering a crucial lifeline in the face of continuous obstacles.
