Six out of the 11 sectoral indices on the NSE traded in the positive territory Domestic stock markets have retraced their mid-morning losses amid a flat opening in their European counterparts.
The S-P BSE Sensex index is at 11300, down 53 points and the broader NSE Nifty benchmark is at 11,893, down 2 points.
The Sensex had hit an intra-day low of 40,221 earlier in the day.
Losses in capital goods and automobile stocks weighed on the markets, however gains in metal and pharmaceutical shares provided some support.

On the other hand, Yes Bank, Bajaj Auto and Britannia were the top drags on Sensex, shedding between 1% and 3%.The Nifty FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) indexwas a major drag on the markets in late-morning trade, down around half a per cent.
In this sector, heavyweights ITC and Hindustan Unilever shed about half a per cent each.Market breadth has turned negative, with 1338moving lower as against 1,137stocks trading higher on the BSE.On the NSE, 855shares advanced while 916 declined.Among the stocks seeing major action today, Glenmark Pharma has raced ahead by 21%per cent to Rs 365on the BSE, on the news that global research firm CLSA had upgraded the stock to "buy" from "sell" and raised its target price to Rs 410 from Rs 350.BPCL rose more than 3.5per cent at Rs 524 following Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's statement on Saturday that the government was aiming to complete the sale of state-run companies Bharat Petroleum and Air India by March 2020.Tata Steel shares soared more than 3per cent to Rs 408after the company exited NatSteel Vina Co.On global front, investors would keep an eye on minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meet, due on November 21, and any progress on the US-China trade front.Foreign institutional investors net offloaded Indian Rs 1,008.37 crore from Indian capital markets on Friday, according to provisional data from the NSE.
