
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani on Saturday exchanged congratulatory messages marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.In his message, Xi noted that over the past six decades, despite changes in the international landscape, China and Mauritania have consistently respected each other, treated one another as equals, and set a model of mutual support and win-win cooperation among developing countries.
He said that in recent years, bilateral ties have developed steadily, with increasingly solid political trust and fruitful cooperation across various fields.Xi also referenced the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Beijing, where he met with President Ghazouani.
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to elevate China-Mauritania relations to a strategic partnership, ushering in a new era of bilateral cooperation.Xi said China attaches great importance to its relationship with Mauritania and is ready to work with President Ghazouani to deepen mutual trust, enhance cooperation, and build a brighter future for the China-Mauritania strategic partnership to benefit both peoples.Ghazouani said that over the past 60 years, China and Mauritania have forged a strong friendship, cooperated closely at all levels and supported each other in international affairs.
He said the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership during the 2024 Beijing summit reflects the deepening of relations between the two countries, which will contribute to the welfare and prosperity of both nations.On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang also exchanged congratulatory messages with his Mauritanian counterpart, Mokhtar Ould Diay.Li expressed China's readiness to continue working with Mauritania to further enrich their strategic partnership.
The Mauritanian prime minister reaffirmed his country's commitment to the one-China principle and expressed willingness to strengthen strategic ties with China.
