A probe that started with the seizure of cocaine in Delhi led to the arrest of a drug peddler in Mumbai's Vasai. The matter first came to light on September 1 when sleuths of the drug enforcement agency seized a parcel at Import Custom Examination Area in Delhi.

The parcel had originated from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and comprised 670 gm of cocaine declared as 'tailoring material samples' in the manifesto.Upon the directions of NCB Director-General Rakesh Asthana, controlled delivery orders were issued to trace the parcel to its recipient.

The contraband was replaced with a dummy parcel and a controlled delivery operation put into place. The KYC of the consignee was verified and led the NCB team to Mumbai resulting in the arrest of Vasai resident S Ghangale.

Also a property dealer and construction contractor, Ghangale was taken into custody along with other members of the syndicate, including a few DJs and party organisers.Ghangale has been taken on transit remand and will be produced in a court in Delhi in the coming days.File photos of Ghangale, resident of Mumbai's Vasai arrested by NCB (Photo Credits: Arvind Ojha/India Today)The NCB acknowledged the role of Sunil Kumar, Dhananjay Some, IOs Neeraj Kumar, Chetan Sharma and Rahul Kumar among others.Controlled delivery is a technique used by enforcement agencies, allowing illicit or suspect consignments of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, controlled substances or substances substituted for them to pass out of, or through or into the territory of India with the knowledge and under the supervision of an officer empowered in this behalf or duly authorised under section 50A with a view to identifying the persons involved in the commission of an offence under the NDPS Act.
