PATNA: A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death at a village in Muzaffarpur on Friday night, and her body was buried in a farmland, allegedly by a 20-year-old youth.

The accused, Lal Babu, was arrested.Police said the child had gone to the house of a relative along with her parents.

“The accused took the girl out to play by seeking permission from her mother.After some time, he came back with the girl.

Around 10pm, he again took her with him, this time without the knowledge of her mother.

Finding the girl missing from the house, family members started looking for her.

As their phone calls to Lal Babu went unanswered, they brought the matter to the notice of the police.Muzaffarpur ASP (east) Shahriyar Akhtar said the girl’s body was recovered from a farmland, hardly 200 metres from her relative’s house, around midnight.

The incident, which occurred on November 12, came to light when the girl's parents filed an FIR.

The accused, a carpenter from Tripura, reportedly raped the girl in her house on Diwali night.

The girl was taken to the hospital for a medical examination, while the accused was brought to the police station after being beaten by the locals.
