The Election Commission has provided election symbols to new political parties for by-election scheduled for November 30.
The Commissionmeeting today decided to register political parties willing to contest by-election for the House of Representatives, Provincial assemblies and local levels, and to provide election symbols.
Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was provided ‘Sun& as its election symbol, while ‘Palm with five fingers& was provided to Socialist Party and ‘Plough& to the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (United).
Among others, Green Party Nepal got ‘trident& as its election symbol, Nepal Democratic Party got ‘joined hands for greeting&, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) got ‘bull&, Sajha Party got ‘beam balance,& Nepal Communist Party (United) got ‘sickle,& and Nepali Congress (BP) got ‘urn& as its symbol.

A two-day training on parliamentary affairs reporting for women journalists organised by Working Women Journalists concluded here today.
As many as 25 working women journalists from all seven states across the country participated in the training that was supported by the Parliamentary Support Project and United Nations Development Programme.
The training covered important information required for parliamentary journalism such as the history of parliamentary affairs in Nepal and parliamentary journalism; theory and practice of reporting; knowledge about the constitution; code of conducts for journalists; the House proceedings; process of enacting bills and specific terminologies related to the House such as objection, rostrum, ruling, and gesture.
Participants were also briefed on duties, responsibilities and significance of the legislature, Federal Parliament session, State Assembly, covering news from gender perspectives, the business of the thematic committees, norms and values required for parliamentary reporting, zero hour, special hour and the role of speaker and main opposition in the parliaments.
Besides, a session on ‘Open parliament: Global practice and media role& was conducted as part of the training. Journalists covering parliamentary affairs had facilitated the session.
Participants actively engaged in ‘a mock parliament session& as part of the training. The programme was concluded in the presence of deputy speaker, the House of Representatives, Dr Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe.
On the occasion, deputy speaker expressed her concern over limited number of women journalists doing parliamentary reporting. She said she seldom saw women journalists in the parliament. Deputy Speaker Tumbahamphe urged senior male journalists with long experiences in journalism to encourage aspiring women journalists to adopt parliamentary journalism as their career. She also urged senior male journalists to be responsive, supportive and cooperative to female journalists. Deputy Speaker Tumbahamphe called on women journalists to cultivate a learning attitude and to seek a career in parliamentary reporting. She lamented that voices of women leaders and lawmakers was less heard and was given less space in the media.

In an official visit to Nepal, World Bank Vice-president for South Asia Hartwig Schafer and UN Secretary GeneralSpecial Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt have underscored the urgency of action on road safety to save lives.
Schafer and Todt met Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth and senior officials at the ministry today. The meeting deliberated on Nepalroad safety, drafting of the Road Safety Bill, formation of the National Road Safety Council, and Road Safety Action Plan, read a press release issued by the World Bank Nepal, country office.
&We are encouraged by the commitment of Nepal to address road safety issues,& said Schafer. Nepal has one of the highest rates of death in road accidents in South Asia with roughly 16 deaths per 100,000 people a year. While Nepal firms up its legislation and institutional frameworks to ensure road safety, implementation will be key to bring to fruition the countrycommitment towards safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems.
&I appreciate the governmentefforts to update the National Road Safety Plan with clear targets, complemented by a strong road safety agency. I look forward to our further joint efforts,& Todt said.

Central Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has expressed its commitment to control crime committed through social media against sexual minorities.
It will ensure that no gender based discrimination is made in protecting the rights of people, according to Bikash Shrestha, Deputy Inspector General of the bureau.

DIG Shrestha was addressing mediapersons at a programme organised by Pahichan Media, dedicated to LGBTIQ community.
Speaking at the program DIG Shrestha said, &We have accorded high priority to cyber crime cases concerning sexual minorities. I would like to assure that no discrimination will be made against the LGBTIQ community by the police and they should not hesitate or fear in registering their complaints with the police office.& New generation is at high risk of cyber crime, according to DIG Shrestha.
Sunil Babu Panta an activist championing the cause of sexual and gender minorities and former member of the Constituent Assembly said a notable number of LGBTIQ community has been involved in chemsex.
Chemsex is sexual activity of two or more partners under the influence of stimulant drugs. Panta said unlike in foreign countries chemsex is yet to become the subject of serious concern in Nepal. But, we should start talking about it.
&Chemsex is a common practice among homosexuals across the globe and has been practiced recently in Nepal. Such practice can result in serious untoward consequences, and even in deaths of the concerned persons,& he said.
BureauSenior Superintendent of Police Nabinda Aryal said gender or sexual orientation of a person did not influence investigation.
