ISLAMABAD: Additional Director General Basharat Mehmood Shehzad of the Federal Investigation Bureau (FIA) demanded for the body to have the same access to governmental records as supplyd to the National Accountability Bureau.
During a assembly of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior Shehzad briefed that owing to the faults in the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Act 2010, obtaining valid results was getting difficult with records much getting getd on time and a delay in the course of investigation as well.
He went on to express that the FIA should also have the same access to governmental records as NAB while stating that in order to endegree this, anti-money laundering laws needed amendments.
Moreover, he complained that the FIA had to seek permission from a sessions judge in order to access bank data while NAB was authorized with the right to use data from any organization.
The director of the federal counter-intelligence body stated seeking permission from a sessions judge results in a major delay in the course of the investigation as it was much degree whether permission would be granted by the judge in the end or much.
