It violates human rights and the principles of humanism, he said.Russias Foreign Ministry said it summoned Norway's charge d'affaires to protest the blocking of critical shipments for its Svalbard workers, including food, medical equipment and construction materials, at the Russian-Norwegian border."We indicated that unfriendly actions against Russia will inevitably lead to appropriate retaliatory measures," the ministrys statement said.Norway's Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt denied that Oslo had violated the Svalbard Treaty, sayingthe shipment "has been stopped on the basis of the sanctions that prohibit Russian road transport companies from transporting goods on Norwegian territory."Goods transport "does not have to go via mainland Norway by Russian truck," she said, suggesting other solutions could be found to supply the mining community.
She added that the situation in Barentsburg was "normal" and that "residents have access to food and medicine."Russia will most likely resort to its usual diplomatic measures like political or economic sanctions and expulsions of diplomats in its response, Nikolai Doronin, board chairman of the Project Office for Arctic Development, told The Moscow Times.Russia and Norway have suspended almost all projects [together].
