Former Navy and Air Force Commanders awarded highest military ranks

Former Commander of Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and former Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathileke have been conferred the highest honorary military ranks by President Maithripala Sirisena at an investiture ceremony held Thusday (19).Accordingly, Karannagoda was promoted as the Admiral of the Fleet while Gunathileke was promoted as Marshal of Sri Lanka Air Force. The President had earlier awarded the honorary military ranks in an extraordinary gazette notification and the formal presentation took place today at the Colombo Harbour premises.

Showery condition to enhance over the island

Prevailing showery condition is expected to enhance to some extent over the island in next few days. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces. Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in these areas. Several spells of showers will occur in Anuradhapura, Jaffna and Mannar districts. Solution under way for War Hero pensions

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday agreed in Parliament that the demands of the disabled War Heroes who staged a Sathyagraha opposite the Fort Railway Station were reasonable and said that the government was in the process of solving the issue.The Minister explained that the proposals had been sent to the Defence Ministry for their recommendations regarding the grant of a 100 percent pension and 75 percent pension to the fully and partially disabled War Heroes respectively at their retirement and the Defence Ministry has responded to it. He added that hence the issue would be solved without delay.

Jaffna Enterprise Sri Lanka was highly successful

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said the Enterprise Sri Lanka Programme held in Jaffna was highly successful.The Minister said that during the four days, over 200,000 people visited the programme and that the public said that it was the most successful exhibition held in Jaffna after the war.

Presidenttestimony before PSC ends; final report by end of October

The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to inquire into the Easter Sunday terror attacks have concluded the hearing of evidence from President Maithripala Sirisena.Committee member MP Nalinda Jayatissa says that the final report of the PSC will be submitted to the Parliament of Sri Lanka at the end of October.
