Matara,Galle district all schools closed for 2days

All schools in Galle and Matara Districts will be closed tomorrow (24th) and Wednesday (25th of September)due to the prevailling adverse weather conditions, stated the Southern Province Governor Hemal Gunasekara.

SG temporarily relieved of duties

Attorney General Dappula de Livera PC has formally asked the Public Service Commission (PSC) to conduct a preliminary investigation into the alleged controversial telephone conversation between Solicitor General Dilrukshi Dias Wickremasinghe PC and Avant Garde floating armoury company Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi, who is first accused in the Avant Garde case. Senadhipathi is reportedly abroad taking medical treatment and has failed to appear before court.The Co-ordinating Officer to the Attorney General, State Counsel Ms. Nishara Jayaratne told news media that the Attorney General yesterday sent this request to the PSC seeking an Inquirer to be appointed to conduct a preliminary investigation into the incident of the phone call.

Flood warning issued to people along Gin, Nilwala Rivers

People living along the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga in the Galle and Matara Southern Province had been asked to be vigilant following a minor flood situation in the regions.&Gin Ganga and Niwala have come close to spill level as a result of heavy showers. People living along the banks of these two rivers should be vigilant,& DMC Spokesman Dr Pradeep Kodippili said.

Warning : Heavy rain and strong winds in the south

Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department warned the general public indicating that Prevailing showery condition in the South-western part is expected to enhance to some extent during next few days (From today to 24th September). Issuing media release this morning the center further says Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces. Heavy falls about 150 mm are likely at someplaces in Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Western provinces.
