Releasing of occupied land under the Sirisena Presidency

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed authorities in the North and East to restore private land annexed by the Military to their original owners with immediate effect. While the Military will occupy land essential for security, all additional land will be returned to civilians. In this effect 90 per cent of lands have already been returned.

Jaffna products at Palali airport duty free

Priority will be given to Jaffna products in duty free shop stalls in Palali airport, Petroleum Resources and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunge said in Jaffna.Minister Ranatunge made a visit to the Palali airport with a team of 80 officials to see the development project. Later, he had a discussions at the Jaffna Kachcheri with TNA MPs and some other officials. in that discussion he stated that priority must be given with regard to employment opportunities to people from the Northern Province. The first phase development work of the airport is scheduled to be completed on October 10, while flight services is scheduled to begin on October 15.

President before PSC on Sept. 20

The Parliament Select Committee investigating the Easter Sunday terror attacks is scheduled to meet President Maithripala Sirisena on September 20, 2019. President Sirisena gave the date in a letter to the PSC yesterday, and the Select Committee will visit the Presidential Secretariat at 10 a.m. on the 20th morning to obtain the Presidentstatement, Committee chairman Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri said yesterday.
