Wind speed can be increase up to 50 kmph at times over the island, particularly in Northern, North-central provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota districts and in the central hilly areas.Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces.Several spells of light showers may occur in Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm.There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead tomorrow (02) are Mahawewa, Alaluwa, Kadahapola, Uhumiya, Kandanuwara, Girandurukotte and Periyanilavanai about 12.11 noon.

Academic activities for the third term of government and government-approved private schools will commence from tomorrow (02), stated the Ministry of Education.However, the 12 schools which are being used as the Marking Centers for the first phase of the Advanced Level examination paper marking will commence their academic activities on the 16th of September.

The apparel industry is heading towards becoming the key driver of economy and is set to surpass the target revenue mark for this year. The progress made by the industry so far is encouraging, Secretary General Joint Apparel Association Forum, Tuli Cooray said.&The first half recorded the highest earnings for the industry within the last five years surpassing the earnings of US $ 2,413 million in 2016. With a dip in earnings of US $ 2,281 million in 2017, it recorded $ 2,395 million for 2018 and $ 2,620 million for 2019. Total export earnings recorded a 9.41 percent growth compared to 3 percent growth the previous year. This is the highest growth rate for any export sector in the country,& he said.

With the arrival of the Head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, in Sri Lanka, more than 21,000 Bohra community members from 40 countries arrived in Colombo to participate in their annual convention. It was the biggest international event to be held in Sri Lanka since the Easter Sunday bombings. The convention is held to mark Ashara Mubaraka during the first ten days of the Muslim month of Muharram in different countries. The event will begin today and continue till September 10.
