Sri Lanka has progressively improved in human development over the years and is ranked 71 out of 189 countries in the Human Development Report 2019 released Monday by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).According to the report titled "Beyond income, beyond averages, beyond today: Inequalities in human development in the 21st century", Sri Lanka's Human Development Index (HDI) has progressively increased up to 0.780 in 2018 from 0.625 in 1990 in a scale ranging between 0-1.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Kankasanturai to Galle via Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Hambanthota. Showers or thundershowers will occur in the other sea areas during the afternoon or night.Winds will be North-easterly and speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island.The sea areas extending from Mullaitivu to Negombo via Kankasanturai, Mannar and Puttalam can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to (50-55) kmph at times.Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
