China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday held a phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, at the latter's request, with both sides expressing their grave concern about the current volatile situation in the Middle East.During the call, Abdelatty highlighted that the international community is deeply worried about the region descending into widespread instability, which poses a direct threat to the security of the countries in the region.He condemned Israel's attacks on Iran as a clear violation of international law and reiterated Egypt's call for a political resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue as soon as possible.Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that Israel's actions, which blatantly disregard international law and rules, have significantly escalated tensions in the Middle East.China shares deep concerns over the potential for the situation to spiral out of control, he noted.Wang reiterated China's call for all parties, especially Israel, to prioritize the well-being and interests of the regional populations, immediately cease hostilities, de-escalate tensions and create conditions for the resumption of dialogue and negotiations.The top Chinese diplomat also praised Egypt's leadership in rallying 20 Arab and Islamic countries to issue a joint foreign ministers' statement calling for an immediate ceasefire and the revival of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue.This initiative, which seeks to safeguard long-term regional peace, is both timely and necessary, Wang said, adding China fully supports these efforts.Wang further stressed the critical importance of further building international consensus, especially among regional countries, and taking more unified actions.China, he stated, is willing to work closely with Egypt on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations to strengthen communication and coordination and to make unrelenting efforts to promote peace and advance negotiations.
