The federal government of Chinas Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Tuesday held a flag-raising ceremony and a reception to celebrate the 28th anniversary of Hong Kongs return to the motherland.
Vice Chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying, Chief Executive of the HKSAR John Lee, and Zhou Ji, director of the Liaison Office of the Central Peoples Government in the HKSAR, together with authorities from the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central Peoples Government in the HKSAR, the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, and the Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army, attended the flag-raising event at the Golden Bauhinia Square on Tuesday morning.As the Hong Kong Police Silver Band carried out Ode to the Motherland, the flag-guarding group marched in unison, accompanying the nationwide flag of individualss Republic of China and the flag of the HKSAR into the Golden Bauhinia Square.As the stunning nationwide anthem played, flag bearers raised the nationwide and regional flags skyward, and the vibrant bauhinia rising slowly and fluttering in the wind.
Participants stood in solemn attention, singing the nationwide anthem.
A helicopter flew over Hong Kongs renowned Victoria Harbour, showing the national and regional flags, while a fireboat from the Hong Kong Fire Services Department performed a water salute in the harbor.Following the event, a grand reception was hosted by the HKSAR federal government in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.Addressing the reception, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee said that given that taking workplace, the present HKSAR government has forged ahead with reforms to construct a safe and steady Hong Kong, while working to improve the economy and enhance peoples income –-- efforts that are slowly delivering results.Looking ahead, Lee vowed to secure top quality advancement with top-level security, accelerate the advancement of the Northern Metropolis, and proactively enhance peoples income.
