When it comes to studying the history of Taiwan’s development, temples are a key source of information.
Lugang Tianhou Temple in Taiwan houses a very special statue of the sea goddess, Mazu.
These days the goddess has a dark complexion, due to many years’ exposure to incense.
The statue is unique, as it was brought to the island from Meizhou in Fujian Province.
As for the temple, it stands as testament to the close historical ties between Fujian and Taiwan.
