Representatives from the Hanumandhoka Herchaha Adda and volunteers have been managing the crowd of the devotees.

Two queues have been set to facilitate devotees and visitors to enter the temple — one from Indrachowk and another from New Road.

Meanwhile, the religious rituals are taking place while the animals are being sacrificed in the temple.

It is believed that the worshippers on this day are blessed with peace, prosperity and happiness.

Meanwhile, a total of 54 male goats and buffaloes in the same number were sacrificed on the premises of the three-storey temple last night on the occasion of Maha Ashtami, the eighth day of the festival, also known as Kal Ratri.

The historic temple built during the Malla Dynasty was damaged in 2015 earthquake and is still under reconstruction.

Other historic buildings on the premises of Kathmandu Durbar Square were built in the period ruled by King Ratna Malla to King Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah. Jagannath Temple, Shiva-Parvati Temple, Thulo Ghantaghar, Kal Bhairav, Maiju Dega, Kumarighar, Basantapur Durbar, Gaddi Baithak, Kasthamandap are among remarkable buildings in the area.

KATHMANDU: Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been arrested from the speakerofficial residence in Baluwatar following district courtpermission to take him into custody to investigate attempt-to-rape charges levelled at him.

Mahara has been taken to Metropolitan Police Circle, Singhadurbar.

UPDATE: Police arrest Mahara for investigation following attempt-to-rape charges

The Kathmandu District Court had earlier granted permission to Nepal Police to arrest the former Speaker of House of Representatives based on a First Information Report (FIR) that was lodged against him following an allegation of rape.

The victim, who is a staffer at Parliament Secretariat, had lodged the complaint against Mahara on Friday citing an attempt to rape and acts of violence, informed police.

The permission from Kathmandu District Court provided a leeway for the police to remand Mahara into custody for further investigation.

Earlier today, Spokesperson at Metropolitan Police Range, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hobindra Bogati had told THT Online that police were carrying out the investigation and necessary actions would be taken. He had further hinted that preparation was going on to conduct further investigation after taking accused Mahara into police custody.

Police declined to comment further on the issue.
