US Ambassador visits ‘Marked-Oriented Dairy& project

US Ambassador Alaina Teplitz recently visited with dairy farmers benefitting from a US-funded Rs 2.2 billion worth programme to enhance dairy production in the country.The US Embassy in a statement said the project titled ‘Marked-Oriented Dairy& launched in May last year, is expected to increase local milk production by 94 percent by 2022.

Elpitiya PS poll voting commences this mornng

Casting votes for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election commenced at 47 polling booths, a short while ago, the Galle District Returning Officer Somaratne Vidanapathirana said. Voting commenced at 7.00 a.m. this morning and will continue until 4.00 p.m. this evening.

The total number of voters eligible to cast their ballots stands at 53,384. Among the 155 candidates from recognized political parties, who are running for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election, will be elected as PS councillors. The voters are required to submit a form of identification accepted by the Elections Commission in order to cast their ballot.

Light Rail Transit operations to commence in 2025

Colombo Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project will be ready for commissioning by end of 2024 and for commercial operation by early 2025.The total cost of the project is US D 2.2 billion, of which USD 1.8 billion will be provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The government of Sri Lanka requested JICA to introduce the LRT model due to its versatility to run in all possible types of alignment.
