ICC Chairman assures support for development of Sri Lanka cricket

Shashank Manohar, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of world cricket, met with the President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe during his visit to Sri Lanka. The ICC Chairman called on President Sirisena at the President's House yesterday (23) afternoon and assured that he would provide all necessary assistance to advance the sport of cricket in Sri Lanka.

Kiwi defiance opens up second Test

Health Minister to regulate prices of more types of medicines

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne today revealed plans to regulate prices of more types of medicines leading to the reduction of price of 5000 brands of medicine in the market by the end of this year. Speaking at an event in in Hambantota yesterday, the Minister disclosed that the government plans to regulate the prices of 27 more drugs taking up the number of price-regulated drugs to 100 which are sold under 5000 brand names in the market.

PM says people decide whether to continue development or go backwards

Ban on extremist groups to continue : Police

The government's decision to end the state of emergency will not affect the ban on extremist groups and the investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said today (Aug 24). Addressing a press briefing, Mr. Gunasekara refuted a newspaper report that the ban on two extremist groups would be revoked and that those in custody over the attacks too would be released.
