Flights between India and Palali to start soon: PM

Air transportation between India and Palali Airport in Jaffna will start before the end of the year, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.Speaking during the inauguration of the work on the Muttur - Batticaloa Road on Saturday, the Prime Minister said flights from India will start operating towards Palali before the end of the year.

Govt. acts fast to curb dengue

The Health Ministry and its dengue response units have moved quickly to pre-empt any further spread of mosquito-borne dengue fever with the onset of heavy rains in many parts of the country. Urban clean-up programmes have been launched as the number of dengue-affected people increased in recent months and public messaging regarding risks and counter-measures have been intensified, Health officials said today.

Jamunadevi feted for empowering conflict-affected women

Jamunadevi Ponnampalam, the Secretary to the Pungudutivu Food Manufacturers Society and the President of the Jaffna Palmyrah Handicrafts Guarantee Ltd, was awarded the ‘Sri Lanka Thilaka& award at the recent National Honours 2019.Amongst 70 personalities, Jamunadevi was awarded for her work in the Northern Province by President Maithripala Sirisena, in Colombo. Pungudutivu Food Manufacturers Society and the Jaffna Palmyrah Handicrafts Guarantee Ltd are two entities that have been supported by UNDP with assistance from the Government of Canada.

Auditor Gen calls for ‘national civil aviation policy&

A National Civil Aviation Policy relevant to Sri Lanka should be prepared along with an airline fleet policy that suits the economic and social outlook of the country, the Auditor General (AG) has recommended in the special audit report on SriLankan Airlines re-fleeting of aircraft and termination of agreements to acquire eight A350-900 aircraft. The AG has also recommended applying such formulated policies as benchmarks when determining the necessity of the fleet of aircraft of the National Carrier.
