The Colombo High Court yesterday served indictments on former Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer Prof. Ananda Samarasekara for his alleged role in the cover-up of the Mahinda Rajapaksa era murder of rugby star Wasim Thajudeen. Samarasekara is accused of covering up evidence when conducting the first post mortem on murdered Havelocks Sports Club captain Thajudeenbody. Thajudeen was killed, ostensibly, in a road accident in Colombo in May 2012.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Most Revd. Justin Welby, the spiritual head of the Anglican Church, will arrive in Sri Lanka on Thursday (29) on a three-day visit as a mark of solidarity with Sri Lanka.Addressing the media yesterday at the BishopOffice, the Presiding Bishop of the Church of Ceylon (Anglican) and Bishop of the Diocese of Colombo Rt. Revd. Dhiloraj Ranjith Canagasabey said that that during his visit to Sri Lanka, the Archbishop of Canterbury is expected to convey solidarity with Sri Lanka in the wake of the Easter Sunday bombings in April.

Light showers may occur in Anuradhapura district.The prevailing showery condition in South-western part of the island is expected to enhance to some extent during next few days from tomorrow (28th August). Showers or thundershowers will occur in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces. Sun is overhead northern Marutadikulam about 12.13 today Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm. Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Central provinces. Wind speed can be increased up to 50 kmph at times in Northern and North-central provinces and in Puttalam, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 27th of August and 07th of September in this year. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (27th) are Nayinativu, Allaipiddi, Mandaitivu, Kilali, Pallai and Marutadikulam about 12.13 noon.

Yet another timely drive, organized as part of the Navyefforts to protect the beautiful coastal belt around the country, was held in the North Central Naval Command on 25th August 2019. Accordingly, the North Central Naval Command pitched in with the Alumni Association of Public Administration of the University of Jayewardenepura to carry out a programme to plant 1250 mangrove saplings in the lagoon area of Naravikulam.
