Digital development support for freelance community

The government is making effort to provide necessary legal or infrastructure support to develop the freelancing community as well as the start up culture in Sri Lanka, Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology Minister Ajith P. Perera told the Social Media Day 2019.The event was organized by the Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology Ministry in association with relevant other partners to commemorate to WorldSocial Media Day which falls on June 30 every year.

Trial-at-Bar to hear elephant trafficking case

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has requested the Chief Justice to a appoint a three member Trial-at-Bar to hear the first elephant trafficking case in the legal history of this country. Attorney GeneralCo-ordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said that the Attorney General has already prepared indictments against elephant trafficker Samarappulige Niraj Roshan alias Ali Roshan and seven others for unlawful possession of five elephants valued at Rs.30 million.

The Sri Lanka delegation to the Human Rights Council briefed the Council today on progress made in addressing human rights concerns, national security imperatives, as well as reconciliation priorities. Sri Lankaintervention under Agenda Item 2 of the Council, followed the Oral Update provided by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Madam Michelle Bachelet at the opening of the 41st Session of the Human Rights Council on 24 June 2019, where a reference was made to Sri Lanka.

State-funded treatment abroad for Easter bomb victims

People injured by the Easter Sunday bombings who cannot be properly treated locally will be sent abroad for treatment at state expense, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinge promised yesterday.
