Officers should work to ensure the benefit of the public & President

The government has taken steps to ensure the public officials have the required facilities to provide efficient public service to the masses. Thus it is the responsibility of the field officials to resolve the issues faced by the people especially those who live in rural areas, President Maithripala Sirisena said.President Sirisena made these observations when he declared open the ‘Nila Sewana& office at Nissankamallapura in Polonnaruwa today (22nd) afternoon.

A total of hundred and eighty (180) ‘Nila Sewana& offices and two (02) railway complexes have been constructed in Polonnaruwa District, covering all the seven Divisional Secretariats. These ‘Nila Sewana& offices have been set up in Thamankaduwa, Dimbulagala, Welikanda, Lankapura, Medirigiriya, Hingurakgoda and Elahera Divisional Secretariat Divisions. These offices facilitates the public to obtain the services of Grama Niladhari, Development Officer, Samurdhi Development Officer and Agriculture Research - Production Assistant under one roof. The total cost for the construction of these offices is around Rs. 30 million.

Inauguration of Tree-Planting Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

A special tree planting project in parallel with the opening of an India-funded New Housing Project in Nuwara Eliya got underway on Thursday (20) at Mahatma Gandhi Puram, Dunsinane Estate in Nuwara Eliya to coincide with 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, World Environment Day and International Day of Yoga where Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, together with Mr D.C. Manjunath, Counsellor Development Cooperation from High Commission of India and Mr V. Puththirasigamany, Chairman of the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) distributed some 1600 plants of economic value among civilians, resident in the area.
