President graced the commissioning naval parade

At a splendid ceremony held at the main parade ground of the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee Saturday (22), Nineteen (19) Midshipmen of 32nd Intake (Technical) - Forty four (44) Midshipmen of 33rd Intake KDU and Twenty six (26) Midshipmen of 59th Intake cadet entry have been passed out as commissioned Officers of the Sri Lanka Navy.President Maithripala Sirisena graced the Commissioning Parade as the Chief Guest. Midshipmen who excelled during their training were presented with special awards by the President in recognition of their outstanding performances.The grand Commissioning ceremony was culminated with the band display by Navy Band and cultural performance presented by the Sri Lanka Navy Cultural Troupe followed by the colourful and traditional Ceremonial Sunset.

Gamperaliya& rural uplift gets Rs. 37.6 Bn

The Governmentisland-wide rural infra-structure development programme is based on a sizeable Rs. 37.6 billion budget allocation that provides for an integrated upgrade of electorate level economic infrastructure and boosting of rural-urban market linkages. As at May 24, 2019, the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs had allocated Rs.37, 565.2 million for the Rapid Rural Development Programme (RRDP), popularly branded as the ‘Gamperaliya programme&, Ministry Secretary V. Sivagnanasothy said.

National Drug Prevention Week begins today

The National Drugs Prevention Week has been declared from today in line with the International Day against Illicit Trafficking And Drug Abuse, that falls on Wednesday, 26th June. The National Drug Prevention Week from June 26 to July 01 has been declared on the advice of President Maithripala Sirisena with the objective of further strengthening the drug prevention program in Sri Lanka and rallying all Sri Lankans for the program.

Yala drowning: Second daughter dies in ICU

The daughter who was receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Debarawewa Hospital after a family drowned in Yala beach, Kirinda, has also passed away, stated Police. Colombo Dockyard delivers the largest ship constructed in Sri Lanka

Colombo Dockyard, the largest and oldest ship building company in Sri Lanka has delivered the largest ship built in Sri Lanka's history of shipbuilding to Japan. Colombo Dockyard delivered its biggest and most sophisticated vessel, the submarine cable-laying ship "KDDI Cable Infinity" built for Japan's Kokusai Cable Ship Co. Ltd yesterday.
