Facilitate swift movement of passengers

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday instructed Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) airport officials to minimise inconvenience and delays caused to arriving and departing passengers.The President gave these instructions during his sudden inspection visit to the BIA. He also instructed to implement the security programme within the BIA premises in a passenger-friendly manner. According to the PresidentMedia Division, the President observed the entire arrival and departure process during his sudden visit.

Visitors allowed to feed animals at Dehiwala Zoo

Visitors to the National Zoological Gardens of Dehiwala are now allowed to feed the animals with permitted foods, Assistant Director Dinushika Manawadu said.The authorities of the zoo have taken this decision to prevent the visitors engaging in the unlawful feeding of the animals, she said.

She further said, that those who are interested in feeding the animals can make a payment to the ticket counter and contribute to the permitted portion of meal for any animal.

No outside foods are allowed to give to the animals under this method and only the foods issued by the zoo itself will be allowed, the Assistant Director pointed out.

22-hour water cut in Colombo and suburbs

The water supply to several areas in the Colombo suburbs would be interrupted for 22 hours starting from 9.00 a.m Saturday (18) till 7.00 a.m Sunday (19). This is due to a power interruption by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) announced today.

Exports increased by US$180 mn in last 11 months

The total value of merchandise exports of the country for first 11 months of 2019 was recorded at US$ 10.7 Bn according to the provisional statistics. This is a US$ 180 Mn increase in value and a 1.7% growth when compared to the similar period of the previous year. Total merchandise exports recorded for the month of November 2019, was US$ 950 Mn while it was 980 US$ Mn in 2018.

Showers occur at a few places after 2.00 p.m

Applications for providing 100000 jobs to unskilled youths published next week

The plan to recruit 100000 unskilled youths to multi-task human resource force has reached its final stage. This is being done under the Vision for Progress envisaged in the election manifesto of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.The notification for calling of applications would be issued by January 20, 2020. The youths belonging to the poorest families are eligible to apply.Under this scheme youths belonging to the poorest of poor families will be selected. This would provide an income to the poorest families and that would raise the living standards of those families.
