Steps to redevelop Hamilton canal as major tourist attraction

Sri Lanka Tourism with the assistance of several other ministers will redevelop Hamilton canal, (Dutch Canal) a 14.5 km (9 mi) canal connecting Puttalam to Colombo, passing through Negombo in Sri Lanka said State Minister of Tourism Promotion Arundika Fernando yesterday. The canal was constructed by the British in 1802 and completed in 1804.

PRESIDENT INSPECTS RENOVATION WORK OF HISTORIC MOAT

The historic Moat (Diya Agala) at the temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is currently being renovated and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had visited the temple to personally inspect the renovation work in progress. The President had paid homage to the Sri Dalada Maligawa on January 12th to obtain blessings for the New Year and had also visited the renovation site. Diyawadana Nilame Predeep Nilanga Dela, State Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Lohan Ratwatte, Dilum Amunugama and, MPs Anuradha Jayaratne and Ananda Aluthgamage were present.

SME loan recovery suspension : CB to issue directives

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is to issue directives to the banking sector on the concessionary loan package proposed by the government to uplift Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) with faulted business having failed to repay their loans.The concessionary loan package was proposed under the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Outstanding Mahapola Scholarship installments to be paid

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Treasury to pay the Mahapola Scholarship installments, which have not yet been paid, to the students within the next week, Higher Education Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said. He made this observation at a press brief held at the Audeitorium of the Government Information Department last Saturday (11).

Seventy five tanks to be renovated by govt. agencies

On the instructions of the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Irrigation Director General has launched a major tanks rehabilitation programme completely deviating from the traditional contracts system. Seventy five major tanks coming under the Irrigation Department will be rehabilitated restored and renovated sans contractors under the Irrigation Prosperity Programme, using departmental staff and its own heavy machinery and equipment.
