The Elections Commission declared that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been elected as the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.On behalf of the Elections Commission, the Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya stated that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa who contested under the flower bud symbol has emerged as the winner of Presidential Election 2019.

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka is still in the process of releasing the results of the 2019 Presidential Election and is expected to announce the final result within the next couple of hours.However, Rajapaksa is currently leading in the polls with several government ministers including rival candidate Sajith Premadasa of the NDF having already conceded defeat on social media.
