Biased media to face legal action for violating election law

The Elections Commission (EC) would seriously consider taking legal action against a number of leading state and private electronic and print media institutions after the presidential poll for deliberately violating the election law, media guidelines issued by the EC and abusing media ethics, Chairman, Mahinda Deshapriya said.He said these media establishments have promoted a single presidential candidate of their choice and fully backed his election propaganda campaign without giving fair space in their print material or air time during TV transmission.

Special bus services from today

Additional buses would be assigned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) from today to provide necessary transport facilities for the people to visit their hometowns from Colombo for the upcoming Presidential Election, SLTB DGM (Operations) P.H.R.T. Chandrasiri said.He said the SLTB had identified the coming weekdays as a long weekend including Saturday (16) and Sunday (17) and people would leave Colombo from today.

SLTB assigns more than 1,300 buses for election duties

More than 1,300 Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses would be assigned for election duties according to based on a request by the Elections Commission fewer than three categories, SLTB DGM (Operations) P.H.R.T. Chandrasiri said yesterday. He said buses would be assigned for transporting ballot boxes, transporting officials and for the Sri Lanka Police Department to transport police officers. &More buses will be assigned for transporting ballot boxes,& he said.

EC meets Presidential Candidates tomorrow

All the Presidential Candidates are requested to attend a special meeting tomorrow at the Election Secretariat in order to discuss about the Presidential election, the counting of votes and the results.If the candidate find it difficult to attend, two authorized representatives of the candidate have been requested to be present at the Commission.
