
China and UK government representatives agreed to pursue practical cooperation for a healthy and safe development of artificial intelligence technology, according to a dialogue held in Beijing on Tuesday.The meeting was co-chaired by Sun Xiaobo, director-general of the Department of Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chris Jones, director of Technology and Analysis of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.Officials from China's National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Cyberspace Administration of China, and the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, Cabinet Office, Department for Business and Trade, and the British Embassy in China took part in the dialogue.Both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges of views on artificial intelligence development opportunities, challenges, and their respective policies.They supported continued strengthening of mutual learning and practical cooperation to promote the healthy, safe, and orderly development of artificial intelligence in both countries.The two sides agreed to maintain communication and coordination on global AI governance, promote the implementation of the Global Digital Compact adopted at the UN Summit of the Future, help developing countries strengthen capacity building, and ensure that AI develops in a beneficial and inclusive manner.
