Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, held a telephone conversation with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi on Wednesday at the latter's request.During the call, Albusaidi strongly condemned Israel's recent attacks on Iran, describing them as a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, as well as a serious infringement on Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.He expressed deep concern over the current regional tensions, particularly the risks posed by strikes targeting nuclear facilities, which could result in nuclear leakage and cause catastrophic consequences for the region.The Omani foreign minister praised China's consistent role in upholding justice and promoting peace within the international community, and voiced hope that China would play a greater role in restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.Wang stressed that the cause and course of events that led to the current tensions are crystal clear: Israel's actions have not only violated international law and the basic norms governing international relations, but also severely undermined Iran's sovereignty and security, as well as regional stability.The conflict has also disrupted the hard-won momentum of the indirect negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue, efforts to which Oman had made important contributions, Wang pointed out.China has always advocated for the peaceful resolution of disputes and firmly opposes the use of force or the threat of force, Wang said.
He reiterated that China promptly expressed its opposition to Israel's military actions."The immediate priority is to halt the fighting," Wang said, noting that the sooner a ceasefire is achieved, the fewer the losses will be.
"We must not allow the region to descend into an unpredictable abyss."The Chinese foreign minister voiced China's full support for the recent joint statement issued by 21 Arab and Islamic countries, including Oman, which called for respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolving disputes through peaceful means.He emphasized that at this critical juncture, the international community – particularly countries in the region – must strengthen unity, uphold justice, and build momentum for opposing war, promoting peace, and advancing a political resolution.China, he added, hopes that Arab and Islamic countries will remain united and continue to play a constructive role in mediating and facilitating dialogue.China will also maintain close communication and coordination with Oman and other regional countries, and will continue to play a constructive role on multilateral platforms such as the UN to help de-escalate the conflict and restore peace in the Middle East, Wang said.
