Chinas first batch of green methanol produced from city waste was refueled into a standard diesel vessel at Yangpu Port in south Chinas island province of Hainan on Wednesday, marking a turning point in the domestic green shipping industry. The green methanol is produced by China BlueChemical Ltd.
(China BlueChem), connected with China National Offshore Oil Corporation, using biogas produced from the fermentation of urban cooking area waste, animal manure and other wastes as raw materials. The injection of the green methanol amounting to 200 tonnes can lower carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 325 tonnes, comparable to the carbon sink result of planting over 19,000 trees. This successful green methanol refueling marks an essential action in transitioning Chinas shipping market from conventional to green energy, stated Wu Hongsheng, head of China BlueChems green methanol working group.
