Land sold against the proper tender procedure Taken Over

A 79 perch land belonging to the Wattala-Mabola Municipal Council, sold against the proper tender procedure has been taken over upon the recommendation made by the Committee on Public Accounts held on the 22nd of August 2019. The committee thanked the officials of the Western Provincial Council for restoring a large asset to the Government. The officials were given the due credit for taking over the land at Committee on Public Accounts held in Parliament today (07) under the patronage of Hon. Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the committee chair.

Rs 5.6 billion worth funds unutilized by State universities in 2017

The Auditor General2017 report, has found that funds of state universities worth Rs 5.6 billion had gone unutilized and had been lying idle in nearly 800 bank accounts. This had been revealed in the fourth report of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), submitted to Parliament yesterday (Nov 7), the ParliamentCommunication Department said in a statement.

Clouds of dust over Colombo likely to increase - DMC

The clouds of fine dust that swept through the skies of Colombo during the past two-three days are currently dissipating, however, there is a risk of recurrence, the Director General of Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Dharmasiri Weeratunga cautioned. New Medals Awarded for Post-War Roles

Launch of the newest ‘Sewabhimani Padakkama& - ‘Sewa Padakkama& (Medals) awarding that recognizes the dedication, commitment and contribution of Army, Navy, Air Force, Police personnel and respective Civil Staffers to the post-war development of the country after 19 May 2009, took place as a conceptual notion of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, HE the President during this morning(8) ceremonial and historic inauguration of the new Army Headquarters at Sri Jayawardenepura. During the event, Mr Esala Weerakoon, Senior Additional Secretary to the President read out the citation and promulgation of the Presidential Gazette provisions that qualify the receipt of these laurels to the meeting as a formality at first.

Special Parliament Session on Nov. 11th

On a request made by the Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Standing Orders 16, the Committee on Parliamentary Business has decided to hold a special Session of Parliament on the 11th of November 2019. The decision was taken at the Parliamentary Business Committee held yesterday (06) chaired by the Hon. Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya. The Bill on Prevention of offences in Sports was scheduled to be taken into debate accordingly.
