Rain to redeuce temporarely today

Showery condition over the island is expected to reduce to some extent temporary today. However there is a possibility for afternoon thundershowers at a few places in Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern provinces and in Kaluthara district.Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Colombo, Gampaha and Galle districts during the morning too.Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces during the morning.General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

New Zealand Justice Minister calls on Prime Minister

Rat fever highest in Ratnapura

A total of 4,060 patients suffering from leptospirosis (rat fever) were recorded during this year by November 4 (Monday). The highest number of patients (868) was reported from the Ratnapura district, the Epidemiology Unit sources said.An increased number of patients were observed during January, March, and June. The highest number of patients (508) had been recorded in May. The number of patients reported from the Kalutara district is 523, while the Matara district recorded 410.

4 special trains for upcoming long weekend

The Department of Railways said 4 special trains will be added to the existing service to accomadate passengers for the upcoming extended weekened.The Department said these trains will be in operation on the 08th 09th and 11th of November. The trains will leave Fort, Colombo at 07:35 PM and will reach Badullla at 04:33 the following morning.The return trip will leave Badulla at 08:00 PM and reach Colombo the following morning at 05:26.

Gas supplies to normalise this week

Local Liquefied Petroleum gas (LP) gas suppliers told the Daily News yesterday that supplies of LP gas have now increased, ending disruption and scarcity in most parts of the country and that stocks have been secured for the next three months.&At present we are supplying 500 metric tonnes additionally on a daily basis due to the panic buying,& Laugfs Holdings Chairman W.K.H Wegapitiya said. &We have already received additional supplies yesterday but we are anticipating our biggest stock of 22000 MT on November 11,& he said.
