
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday said he is ready to work closely with Russian President Vladimir Putin to steer China-Russia relations and make positive contributions to promoting global governance.President Xi made the remarks during a chat over tea with Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow.
Xi is on a state visit to Russia and will attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War.Noting that the world has entered a new period of turbulent transformation, he said as long as the two countries maintain strategic resolve and coordination, no force can stop China and Russia from achieving their own development and revitalization or stop the trend towards a multipolar world and economic globalization.For his part, Putin said he is ready to maintain close strategic communication with President Xi and provide strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations.He called for safeguarding the common interests of the two countries and promoting the development of the world in a just, democratic and multipolar direction.The two heads of state also exchanged views on issues such as the Ukraine crisis.
Xi pointed out that China advocates and upholds common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concepts regarding the crisis, adding that it is important to take all countries' legitimate security concerns seriously and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.China welcomes all efforts conducive to peace and looks forward to reaching a fair, lasting and binding peace deal on the Ukraine crisis accepted by all relevant parties through dialogue, Xi said.Speaking highly of China's objective and fair position on the political settlement of the crisis, Putin said Russia is willing to start peace talks without preconditions and hopes to reach a just and lasting peace deal.
